Drive-It Day

This year the Federation of British Historic Vehicles is using Bishopstone as a base for its Drive It Day. http://www.fbhvc.co.uk/events/events-fbhvc.htm. I've been asked to take my cars along. Recent events have meant that I am well behind on polishing and cleaning, but I will do my best to be there.

"Drive It Day" Events - Sunday 22nd April 2007

FBHVC’s own effort for the day is aimed at generating press coverage by inviting journalists to join the secretary at the Royal Oak at Bishopstone on the Icknield Way, between Swindon and Wantage and encouraging those in the Oxfordshire/Wiltshire/ Berkshire area to use this venue as a staging post on their travels. The pub has recently been rescued from neglect by a local organic food farm and prides itself on the quality of the meat on its traditional menu. (Anyone who has sampled the delights of the Flying Pig outside catering stand at events such as Goodwood and Lords will have an idea of the quality - it’s the same business).

The Royal Oak is not on a main route, and the approach roads are narrow in places (so, sadly, it’s not suitable for visiting commercials) but it is within five miles of the A420 Oxford to Swindon road (due south of Shrivenham), and similarly close to the A345/A419/M4 interchange. Map reference: SU 245837 (OS 1:50 000 sheet 174). It will be open for DID travellers from 0800 for breakfasts. Light refreshments will be served throughout the day and lunches from 1230 to 1430 (pre-booking essential - tel: 01793-790481). Clubs wishing to make the Royal Oak their focus for the day, or to include a stop there as part of an informal road run, are welcome to do so - but please let the secretary know - admin@fbhvc.co.uk

I hope to be there with my 1962 Rover P4, and get a few photos into the local papers etc... I'll be polishing and cleaning for most of today I suspect - baby Millie allowing!
