Cross, Beds, Bowling and Pizza
Its been a heck of a day today. I woke early and went to the church to wind the clock.

Following that I did some digging in the now hugely overgrown veg patch. Before long the kids were up and I could get on with the serious work of the day, getting the new bed through the roof window and into the top floor bedroom....
I had to remove the whole Velux window which was surprisingly simple if heavy and scary. Once out I chucked a rope out of the window, tied it to the bed frame and pulled. Liz screamed at me that it was going to hit the lower floor windows, so we tied another rope to the bottom and she guided it away from any danger while I pulled hard from above. 15 minutes later the bed frame was in the room and I felt a great deal of relief.
Once done I assembled the bed and the girls got to work making their beds and bringing all their detritis up to the new room. (Must photo the finished article). The new room is by far the best in the house now!
Next job of the day was to provide the coffee and refreshments for the Cross carrying parishioners. Every year for the last goodness knows how many years there has been a small procession of the cross from the church to the top of the hill near the Ridgeway.
The cross is carried by 2 people and stops at various points on the journey for prayers to be said. I was struck by the relevance of some of the prayers to many things I've been thinking a lot about recently. Richard who led, prayed about the people who produce stuff for us in the west, the poor people who's whole lives are focused on producing things in poor conditions so we can have luxuries. I've seen many such people in the last year or so, and my job helps those doing the right thing to tell the good stories... So I felt once again confirmation that the hard work and heart ache is worthwhile.
The weather was superb for the walk, and about 6 or so dogs followed with the 20 or so walkers. Once we reached the top of the hill out came the hot cross (cold) buns, and I made cups of tea and coffee for everyone who wanted it.
We each had the opportunity to put a nail at the foot of the cross and to say a prayer. I had several prayers to say and I hope that they are answered.
After the walk back down the hill my family and I all headed for a treat of 10 Pin Bowling. Its been ages since we all went out and did something together. We had such a laugh.
I managed 2 Strikes in my 10 goes which I believe were the first I've ever done. I won the competition and I think Mabel was 2nd. She had to use the device (whats it called?) that kids use to roll the ball down the lane.
We had 10 goes of 2 balls each which took us a little over and hour.
We followed the bowling with a Pizza Hut visit and stuffed ourselves. Lovely.
Liz and Huw picked the best deal on the menu - a Pizza Feast which provided starters, main course and puds all in. Interesting event of the evening - a family argument occured just behind us, and ended with the lady of the family throwing a glass of coke all over her husband/partner in front of their children and storming out.... I missed it all of course!
Once back home I reassembled the bed for Liz and we all crashed out to sleep (and me to do this).
