2D Bar codes - the future

The 2D bar code below is a digital representation of the web site of my company.

If you visit http://reader.kaywa.com you can download the FREE Java reader for your mobile phone. Then all you need to do is point your phone at this web page and press "snapshot" (assuming your phone has a camera) and lo and behold you will be taken to the Historic Futures website.

Now then imagine this was a label inside a product and it took you to the history of the product. (see http://www.trulyresponsible.org/2006/06/27/my-tago.html - where I wrote about this being possible back in June 2006).

My thanks go to Mr Simon Crossley for pointing me in the direction of the reader for phones.

Your article was well written but it failed to mention the free mobile platform.

Developed by Neomedia Technologies, Qode, is the mobile Swiss Army knife. A kind of mobile Google to turn on the internet of things.

Qode lets you link from your mobile device by scanning these types of 2D codes.

Check them out here:
www.qode.com

You can check out the ONE Water promotion and Qode.

Thanks "sampthing" . I failed to mention it as I wasn't aware of it, so thanks very much for making me aware. I'll try this out too.

I'd be happy to enter into more of a dialogue around this very interesting technology.

Hello again "Sampthing".

I tried the qode.com reader, and found it impossible to use. I am disappointed I couldn't get it to work on my phone - a Sony Ericson K800i. It was unable get the camera to focus on the barcode, pointing at a barcode accurately and focussing being more or less impossible to do via the in-built "qode" reader application.

I liked the idea that it ought to be able to read standard barcodes too.

Please get in touch if there are other ways of making this work.

Based off the award winning Lavasphere technology developed in Germany by Gavitec, the NeoReader features NeoMedia's patented resolution technology combined with Gavitec's ultra-small footprint and platform independent algorithms. It is able to read and decipher all common non-proprietary 2D codes (Data Matrix, QR, Aztec, Maxi) as well as URL embedded 2D codes and all 1D UPC/EAN/Code 128 open source codes. The NeoReader supports direct and indirect code linking, which guarantees maximum interoperability with already existing platforms like 2D Data Matrix Semacodes, and Japanese QR links. This allows the user to click on a variety of codes with a single application installed on their mobile device.

The NeoReader ushers in and inaugurates a brand new era of innovative mobile enterprise and optical code reading solutions for the wireless industry. Visit get.neoreader.com to download the free application, and instantly transform your mobile phone into a universal code reader.
