Changing the world, in a small way.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead

I was talking to my colleague Dave Crane earlier about work, and what he was doing and he mentioned on Monday he is going to a Forum for the Future discussion where he will be taking part in a brainstorming on the future of food production. I mentioned its amazing that we get invited to these things and Dave quoted me above quote.

When I think about it, a very small group of people out in the sticks in the Cotswolds in England are working with some of the world's best known brands. When we started, if someone had told me that we would be working with such customers I would have laughed.

I've been told several times that what we do has changed the way people think about transparency in supply chains - maybe its true...

I always remember a previous boss telling me "The world is run by people who challenge the accepted norms and stick at what they believe in, these are the people that make a difference". He also added that they are often difficult people to get on with and can be a right pain to deal with. He was one of them and knew he was difficult. He created the Read Codes and this has since become the standard used for coding clinical records throughout the world. My team won an award for this technical work in 1994/1995 from the British Computer Society for the Best IT Project.

That was another example of a small bunch of dedicated people making something possible that wasn't possible before.
