Another super Bishy day
Despite my best efforts to get my car polished yesterday in readiness for today, I failed. This is in the main because of the fact I live in Bishopstone, next to the pub on the High Street. Despite, or maybe because of the size of the place, the road is always busy with people walking by who stop for a chat. This week they have had more to chat about than normal due to the birth of my super new daughter. So, I was constantly interrupted. I also managed to squeeze in picking up Martha from Wrougton where she stayed after a McFly gig and a trip to the super market which is not advisable on a Saturday.
By the time it was getting dark, I still had about 1/2 the roof to rid of resin from the fir tree in the garden (note to self - remember to tarp it up next winter). Just as I was done for, my friend Steve came out from the pub with a beer for me. Several jars and long discussions later we turned in for the night with him promising to help me in the morning.
I woke up at 6am and got on with the job. Steve joined me at 8am and I made pot of Columbian, single estate fair trade coffee for us. By 9am we were done. Steve had already polished his Norton and Triumph motorbikes. (I'm so jealous he has 5 motorbikes now - including a brand new Triumph Rocket 3).
Around 10:30am once I'd done breakfast I ambled round to the Royal Oak with my Rover. Parked up and left it. Later on I came back to see what was going on and a fine bunch of machines had turned up. The weather was lovely, not too hot but sunny and fine.
At the end of the day, I found all sorts of things in my car, including an invitation to call a magazine that wants to feature my car.
Here's a selection of pictures and videos from the day. I am sure some of you will appreciate the last video, which is a short drive through Bishopstone from the Royal Oak to my house. You'll note just how tiny the village is. Enjoy.
A Lagonda. Its years since I've seen one of these. And here it was in Bishopstone.
I'm pretty sure this is a Bristol 803. Superb.
An absolutely immaculate Triumph TR5.
A 60s Audi. It was kitted out a bit like a rally car. Very unusual.
A lovely Thames pickup.
One of my dream cars. A Sunbeam Tiger. When they made these, the normal spec was called an Alpine. But the Rootes Group teamed up with Ford and somehow squeezed a 4.6 litre (289ci) V8 engine into the thing and called it a Tiger... The speedo reads 160MPH. These are about as rare as hen's teeth in this sort of condition. This is the first time I've ever seen one which hasn't been messed about.
Here's a quick view of the goings on in the car park.
My journey home from the pub is short, round the lanes of Bishopstone.
Excuse my fingers in the view finder at the begining of this one.
