Journey home from South Africa

I had a long journey back to the UK, finally arriving at my house at 10.15am today. It took me almost exactly 24hrs door to door.

My flight from Johannesburg was packed full. I managed to find myself between 2 very pleasant people, one a design student from South Africa who was on her way to Belgium for 3 weeks as part of her course, and the other a civil engineer from Washington, USA who had just finished her undergraduate training and had been installing water pumps for rural farmers in South Africa. We all had experiences in common and had a bit of a chat.

For some reason I couldn't get cool on the plane and sweated the night away in my "hoody" trying to sleep. There is so little room side to side or for legs in a 747. My least favourite planes I have come to realise. I think I slept for about an hour the during the whole 11 hours but did get to watch "Astronaut Farmer" and "Because I said so" on the in flight movies.

For leg room on a 747 you want to try the seats up in the "bubble".

I flew to/from Singapore business class a while back upstairs .. loads and loads of space :)
