Arrived in Cape Town

After a long, almost sleepless, bumpy and uncomfortable night I landed in Cape Town, South Africa some 20 minutes or so ahead of schedule.

The flight on the Boeing 747/400 was about 2/3 full I guess so there was plenty of space side to side. Even so the seats are so closely packed that once the person in front of me reclined I had no choice but to do the same!

Once I got off the plane my colleague Carmen texted me to tell me she'd be there to pick me up. While I waited the clouds gradually cleared from Table Mountain. What a beautiful setting for a city.

I've not seen much of the city yet, and am spending the afternoon in the oldest building in South Africa - a castle built in the 1670 by the Dutch who first controlled this land. In the background is the ever present mountain.

OK .. I know your not going to want to do this but ...

.. go climbing on Table Mountain!

OK it's probably a really bad climb from an exposure point of view for a newbie climber but I'm so jealous that your there.

If you don't climb to the top then find some other way (fingers crossed for the weather).

Check out some of the pictures of the routes:
