A busy Sunday

Mabel and I went for our weekly swim in Marlborough Leisure Centre this morning. Mabel managed to swim a width of the pool with just a single chamber blown up on her armbands. She was very pleased with herself.

When we got home we had a BBQ. I did some Tuna steak served with Quinoa and some organic Artichokes from our veg box. Delicious.

Next tackled the front and back lawns which were quickly becoming a jungle. Looks loads better now. My veg is coming on well, but the recent heavy rain had bashed down quite a few of the broad beans. I spent an hour or so tying them to small sticks with little bits of wire.

I was amazed by the Runner Beans. When I left home a few days ago they were half way up the poles. Now all but a couple of them have reached the top.

The Gooseberries are very nearly ready too. Can't wait for that first Gooseberry crumble of the year.

After that Mabel and I had fun making a water slide, a usual summer favourite.

Later on we went to the recycling point and had fun chucking months of bottles into the glass bins, followed by a swift go on the playground across the road. There was a cricket match going on next to the playground. One of my favourite English summer sights and sounds.

Mabel was very pleased with herself. There is a piece of apparatus with a sort of firemans pole on it. She managed for the first time in her life to go on the pole herself without any help. She was so happy.
