A Bosnian in Ljubljana
Tonight Igor and I went out to eat Bosnian style in one of the most pleasant cities I've ever been to. Ljubljana is really clean, peaceful and old. Whenever I have been here in the evening I have thought how lovely it is. Gentle music wafts through the old streets from street musicians, open air concerts and bars.
In the centre is a small area that resembles a village, with low rise old houses and gardens. It was here that we headed for a small and really low key Bosnian restaurant. The Harambasa which can be found at Vrtna ulica 8, Ljubljana.
We sat in a room, not unlike the front room of someone's house with a few tables and old chairs and enjoyed various types of sausage, a huge flat bread and some weird cheesey butter that was neither cheese or butter and very salty.
The simple food was delicious and very filling.
This was followed by a strong Turkish style black coffee served in a small copper jug and accompanied by a sweet which resembled in look and taste Turkish Delight. Along with this was a very strong cigarette which although I have never smoked I felt obliged to at least take a puff of as it is a traditional thing.
Unfortunately time was short and the weather not good so we had no time to wander around. Another time. I will definitely come back here. I love it.
