Violence in Karachi

A few months ago I was in Karachi on a business visit. Thank goodness it wasn't in the past few days as this from the BBC shows.

And in Video

41 people have been killed in violence in the streets over the weekend, and the city is more or less shutdown while anarchy appears to take hold in places.

I thought it a pretty bad looking place when I was there, but the few people I got to meet and know were lovely. I have a few good friends there now who I've been trying to contact to see if they are OK but have heard nothing from them...

Pakistan is one country I would not want to visit from a safty point of view.

Thanks to all the cr*p that's been happening for the last 10 years or so the world is a much more dangerous place for white, middle class people visiting far away places (and not so far away).

I suppose in the grand scheme of things the odds are still pretty slim that anything bad would happen but in my own scale of personal risk some places are now no go areas .. including large chunks of Pakistan.
