A dull flight with an exciting ending...

I've finally made it to my Hotel in Dhaka in Bangladesh. Its very pleasant too. The Sarina Hotel in the business area of the city. It was worth the 19 hours it took to get here.

On the way in to Dhaka something odd happened that I've never experienced on a place before. We were about to land, wheels down and everything and must have been only 30m or above the ground when suddenly the plane accelerated violently upwards at 45 degrees and kept going to about 1000m according to the in flight monitor. A few people screamed and it was a bit scary! The pilot apologised and said something like "I'll have another go at that" - but I've no idea what he meant by that.

Once the plane landed it was a long haul through immigration, an even longer wait for the baggage and then off in a beaten up van to the hotel through the mad streets packed with autorickshaws, pedal rickshaws, cars and buses with no lights and every panel dented or falling off. No lane sense, lean on the horn and you get there eventually seems to work in so many parts of the world, and did here too.

I met up with Farhan who arrived yesterday, had some curry (yes they sell curry here) and planned the meetings for tomorrow. I'm now knackered having more or less missed Monday night due to flying.

I can do without that kind of excitement on a plane thank you very much!! Glad you arrived safely. Hope you've managed to get some sleep.

I've heard of this type of manoeuvre before .. it's usually (not that I'm an expert) because the pilot is scared of cross winds just as your about to touch down.
