Pets in the Church and Nelson meets his mother

Every so often we have a bit of fun here in Bishopstone. Today was one of those times.

The vicar invited people to bring their pets to church with them today. There must have been about 30 assorted dogs, cats, rabbits and hamsters in the church. All were remarkably well behaved. Unfortunately my camera / phone batteries were almost flat and I only managed to get a couple of pictures which is a shame.

The highlight for me was meeting my dog Nelson's mother again for the first time in many years. When I say mother I don't actually mean the dog that gave birth to him, but the one that suckled him. Sadly Nelson's mother was unable to feed her puppies and he would have died if something else even sadder hadn't happened just down the road. A couple who breed Westies (Scotty Dogs to me) had an unfortunate incident where their Westie puppies were killed by a cat. So Nelson and 3 other Border Collie/Springer Spaniel cross puppies went to the Westie to be mothered. By the time we got Nelson he was already quite a bit bigger than the lovely Westie that was mothering him!

If you look carefully at the blurred picture above you will see a little white Westie - called Isla. Thats the little sausage that looked after young Nelly!

They sniffed each other but that was about it!

The owner was so pleased to see Nelson, having come from a few villages distant and hoped that he'd be there!
