Salsa in the Hills above Quixada

After a hot and sticky afternoon in the fields we experienced more Brazilian culture in the evening. A band played traditional Brazilian music. Food was served and beer was consumed.

Before too long dancing started up and several of the people I was with decided to get up and dance. I was very embarrassingly dragged to the dance floor by a lady called Celia from Paraguay (on the left in the picture). She was clearly an expert and I was not.

I was hopeless at dancing and trod on her feet, banged my elbow on her head as she span round and before long was exhausted by the heat and ready to drop. I believe that Simon F took a video... so watch this space. It was fun, but the heat was just too much for me. I didn't get asked to dance again..

I was surprised by how many people suddenly started speaking English to me. After 2 days of thinking no one could understand a word I said, all of a sudden the beer made them understand me! I found it very confusing, as many could speak Spanish or Portuguese and some both. So I had no idea what anyone was saying or which language they were speaking most of the time.
