An afternoon in Porto

Soon after arriving here today I made contact with my colleague Ashley and we met up for lunch. Someone suggested that we should try a place down on the coast and scribbled the name on a piece of paper. We presented it to a Taxi driver and before long we were down by the sea eating Calamari and Mussells. Ashley's mussels were a bit odd tasting so she didn't eat many, but my beer and calamari was delicious.

We sat and chatted about the previous weeks events, with me in Dhaka and most of the rest of the the HF team here in Porto. There was lots to catch up on.

When we finished fixing the world of sustainable textiles we strolled along the road until we reached the mouth of the river, stopped and bought and ice cream and watched the world pass by for a bit.

Then carried on up the river hoping we'd find a taxi back to the hotel soon enough.

Along the way there was plenty of interest to see.

Lots of the houses were covered in glazed tiles and very pretty.

There were long abandoned boats high and dry out of the river.

An hour or so later we were still walking. Eventually we decided to pop into a cafe and ask where we could catch a taxi. The owner kindly phoned for one for us. It was a long walk and I can see now when I look at the map of where the taxi picked us up from compare to where we started along the coast.

It's been a lovely afternoon. First time I've had a chance to relax and walk without feeling that I'm overheating for a week. Its good to be out of the Dhaka heat and in some fresh air again. Porto seems to be a lovely city. I reckon it's got to be worth coming back to one day.
