Bishopstone Barn Yard Bonanza and Bishy Union of Morris Men

For the past few years the the wonderful Bishopstone CofE Primary School in the village has laid on a fund raising event sometime during the summer. I am always completed astounded just how wonderful these are. Something crazy and fun every time. This year was no exception.

Some months ago, my wife came home after a FOBS (friends of Bishopstone school) meeting and told me I was to be a Morris Dancer for the event. Initially I didn't want to do it, but after the first practice with 7 other Dads I was convinced it would be fun.

Over the past few weeks we've been practicing once a week (sometimes twice) and only on 2 occasions did we actually manage to all meet together. So it's quite remarkable that it worked out at all. Our teacher, Sue Tremlin was superb. After each session we ended up in the pub and we've become well known through the village.

Adrian put on a top hat and tails and borrowed one of my waistcoats and collected over £140 in his hat just wandering around the folks watching us. Thank you everyone for donating so well.

Yesterday both The True Heart and The Royal Oak pubs provided complimentary free beer to us and a great time was had by all. I love the top picture - read the writing above the bar. One can barter for Ale and food by bringing in good local produce... Nice one!

We aquired a name - The Bishopstone Union of Morris Men. BUMM. And here we are...

Simon and Richard, and Tom who so far has refused to join us... but he did buy a round of drinks! Thanks Tom.

Real Ale and hats with flowers on. Thats what its all about!

Back we went to the Royal Oak for some excellent beer and a sing song.

Paul getting ready to strut.

Guess how many ballons in the tractor? Not sure who won, I guess 42 but was probably way out.

Liz made 18 loaves of bread and some superb tasty butter for potatoes, pasta, fish etc. Sold out of all the bread in minutes.

It helps to have on hand an award winning Squezzy Box Thingy champion in the crew...

We taught the locals how to do it too...

If you have more photos or video of the day, pls let me have a copy!

Hi Simon - Blimey - it almost looks like we know what we're doing! The finger's healing nicely after you splatted it.
Great day!

Oh, what fun, what fun, what fun, Simon! They ALL worked!! (Do you guys ever accidentally poke each other with those sticks while you're dancing?) Oh, my goodness! I hope you had half as much as fun as I did just watching. Will you do it again next year, do you think?

Hello Jo. We've had a few requests for performances and it seems we may keep going.. About 150 per show seems to be what people will pay. Give me the date and i'll see what they say. Maybe the Bums on tour!
