American Morris Men in Bishopstone

Unfortunately I have been working really hard this evening and didn't get a chance to go out to do my weekly practice at Morris Dancing.

I've still not really finished working tonight, its one of those jobs that could go through the night - so I'll get up early and try and finish off when the brain is a bit more in gear.

Anyway... as I was working I heard a bit of a commotion outside and lo and behold several Morris teams had assembled outside the pub next to my house. Some of them even from America. It was lovely to see the road packed with people dancing.

I managed to get away from the computer for a few minutes and caught some of it on video. Here it is for your enjoyment.

Some of the folks were from the Icknield Way Morris Men. Their website can be found at http://www.icknieldwaymorrismen.org.uk

Delightful! Looks like just a ton of fun. Reminds me a bit of square-dancing, except with some pretty fancy footwork. Those gals were really good, weren't they? No wonder you have to practice!

We had two groups at our local last Friday night. Rattlejag and Morris Poacher. A good evening and they even got the kids up and involved.

Morris Poacher had their faces blacked out or with yellow lines and shapes - must look up their orignin as I remember Morris Dancers in white.
