I've Gone back to Windows XP from Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04
After a good try to see if I can live without the M$ operating system I finally conceded defeat and have re-installed Windows XP on my laptop replacing the Hardy Heron Ubuntu 8.04 I'd been running.
I've not gone back to Windows due to any fault of Ubuntu. It really was great, but there are simply too many tools that I need to use that don't have a direct replacement in an Ubuntu environment. They must also remain compatible with the same tools my colleagues and customers using Windows rely on.
In short the applications that tripped me up were
- GoToMeeting
- Macromedia Captivate
- Internet Explorer 7.x
- EMS PostgreSQL SQL Manager
Sadly I was unable to find any direct replacement for these.
So I am back in a clean Windows XP environment and it actually feels very good. Everything works, and is there just as I remember only it works better than I remember and seems more seamlessly integrated than the packages under Ubuntu...
Wonder how long I'll see it through rose tinted glasses?

Have been thinking of washing it off and installing XP on it instead, but i know Vista isnt going anywhere... grrrrr
Go for it. We've "downgraded" several machines at work now due to issues we've had with Vista...
