Karachi and the sleeper to Bahawalpur

I was very pleased when i swiftly passed thru immigration and customs. Karachi airport was small clean and efficient. Much nicer than Mumbai. My driver was waiting and i felt tiered but safe. As we headed for the hotel Karachi looked like any other big city. Before long though i saw the usual poverty one sees in this part of the world. We soon reached the hotel, the doorman wielding a machine gun. Scary. I checked in to an uncleaned room 4 a few hours rest. Later i met Pramod (from India) and Edward (from Russia) to discuss the project. Following a bite to eat Pramod and i caught the 8pm sleeper to Bahawalpur. We were in A/C lower class - approx 20 rows of 3 tier bunks in open plan train carriage. Everyone had too much luggage. It was hot and noisy. Babies cried all night and every stop vendors came aboard to sell Chai and Chicken. 15 long hours later we arrived in Bahawalpur! A journey i'll always remeber.
